By creating an account or using Kindled, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your name and email address, or the equivalent information provided by Google or Apple if you sign in through them.
Profile information
This includes your profile photos, bio, age, and any interest prompts or answers you choose to add to your profile. This information is shown to other users as part of your public profile.
Location
We collect your precise device location to show you compatible matches nearby and to calculate approximate distance ("3 miles away") shown on your profile to others. You can control location permissions through your device settings, though disabling location will limit Kindled's core matching functionality.
Messages
When you match with someone, we store the messages you exchange so your conversation history is available across your devices and sessions.
Subscription and payment information
If you subscribe to Kindled Premium, our payment processing partner (RevenueCat) and the app store you purchased through (Apple App Store or Google Play) handle your payment details directly. We do not see or store your card details. We do receive and store your subscription status (active, canceled, expired) to determine which features you have access to.
Usage and device information
We automatically collect basic analytics (such as which features you use and how often) and crash reports to help us understand how Kindled is used and to fix bugs.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Show you potential matches based on your preferences and location
- Enable messaging between matched users
- Process and manage your subscription
- Improve Kindled's features based on aggregate usage patterns
- Maintain the safety and security of the platform, including detecting fraud, spam, and abuse
- Communicate with you about your account, matches, or updates to our policies
3. Where Your Information Is Stored
Kindled's backend infrastructure is built on Firebase (a Google service). Your account data, profile information, messages, and photos are stored on Firebase's servers. Firebase maintains its own security and privacy practices, described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
4. Third Parties We Share Information With
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information with the following third parties, solely to operate Kindled:
- Firebase (Google) — hosts our database, authentication, file storage, and analytics.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status and receipt validation. RevenueCat receives your purchase and subscription information from Apple/Google on our behalf.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — process your subscription payment directly. We never receive or store your full payment card details.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
5. Your Choices and Rights
Editing your profile
You can update your bio, photos, and preferences at any time in Settings.
Location
You can disable location access in your device settings, though this will limit matching functionality.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and associated data at any time by:
- Going to Settings → Delete Account within the Kindled app, or
- Visiting https://kindled-prod.web.app/delete-account if you no longer have the app installed.
Data retention
We retain certain information (such as records of policy violations or fraud) for a limited period after account deletion, solely where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse of the platform.
6. Children's Privacy
Kindled is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a user under 18, we will delete it.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including Firebase's built-in security infrastructure and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy with a new "Last updated" date, and, where required, through in-app notice.
